Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-08-30 Contact: [email protected]
This Privacy Policy explains how DubTab (the "Service") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the DubTab browser extension, the DubTab desktop app for Windows, and related websites.
The two apps share one account, one engine and one set of practices. Where the desktop app differs — mainly because it can capture audio outside the browser — the differences are set out in Section 7.
1. Information we collect
A) Content processed to provide the Service
When you start a DubTab session — on a browser tab with the extension, or on an application or your system audio with the desktop app — the Service may process:
- Source audio in short segments to generate transcription, translation, subtitles, and/or AI voice. The source is the browser tab you enable DubTab on, or — in the desktop app — the single application or the system output you select
- Generated text output such as transcripts, subtitles, translations, summaries, and Ask AI content
- Optional saved dubbed audio consisting only of the translated AI voice generated by DubTab
- Saved-audio metadata needed for preparation, playback, caption highlighting, deletion, and storage management
Source audio is processed in real time and is not saved by DubTab as a recording. Neither app has a microphone source; they process what your browser or your computer plays, not what you say. Saving dubbed audio is off by default. If you turn it on, DubTab assembles and stores only the translated AI voice it successfully generates; it does not save the original source audio, your microphone, or system audio as part of the saved file.
Limited temporary buffering and short-lived processing files may be used to deliver streaming results and prepare saved dubbed audio.
B) Account and subscription information
If you sign in or purchase a plan, we may collect:
- Account identifier (such as email address and user ID)
- Subscription status and billing metadata (such as plan name and renewal status)
Payments are handled by third-party payment processors. DubTab does not store full payment card details.
C) Usage and diagnostics
To operate and improve the Service, we may collect:
- Basic usage events (e.g., start/stop, selected languages, feature settings)
- Diagnostics (e.g., error logs, performance/latency metrics)
- App/device info — for the extension, browser type and version and the extension version; for the desktop app, the app version, your Windows version and CPU architecture
2. How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide real-time transcription, translation, subtitles, and AI voice
- Store and display History content, including optional dubbed-audio playback and caption highlighting
- Maintain, secure, and improve the Service
- Provide customer support
- Manage subscriptions, usage limits, and prevent abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information.
3. How we share information
DubTab may share information with service providers only as needed to run the Service, such as:
- Speech recognition, translation, and text-to-speech providers
- Software distribution and update hosting (for the desktop app)
- Cloud hosting, database, and private object-storage providers
- Authentication, analytics, and diagnostics providers
- Payment processors
These providers process data only to provide services for DubTab and are required to protect it.
Information may also be disclosed if required by law or to protect the security and integrity of the Service.
4. Data retention
DubTab aims to minimize data collection and retention:
- Source audio is processed transiently and is not saved by DubTab as a recording.
- History text and optional saved dubbed audio are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to provide History and related features, unless you delete them earlier. Saved dubbed audio is not intended to be a permanent archive and may be removed under the Service's storage and deletion practices.
- Temporary buffers and processing files are removed when they are no longer needed for delivery or audio preparation.
- Account and billing records may be retained as required for account operation and legal/compliance purposes.
Deletion may take a short time to complete across active systems and service providers. Limited backup, security, or legal records may remain where reasonably necessary or required by law.
5. Security
Reasonable measures are used to protect data, including access controls, encryption in transit, private object storage for saved dubbed audio, and short-lived authorized playback links. No system can be guaranteed 100% secure.
6. Your choices
You can stop real-time processing at any time by pausing or stopping the session, turning off DubTab, or closing the tab. Nothing is captured before you start a session. You can also manage extension permissions in your browser settings, and — for the desktop app — the choices described in Section 7.
Saving dubbed audio is off by default. You can turn it on or off before starting a session. Turning it off prevents future sessions from saving dubbed audio but does not delete audio already saved in History.
You can delete saved dubbed audio from History without deleting the session's subtitles. Deleting the entire session also removes its saved dubbed audio. To request access to or deletion of account-related data, contact [email protected].
7. Desktop app (Windows)
The desktop app does everything the extension does, plus one thing the extension cannot: it listens to audio that never passes through a browser. This section covers only what is different.
What it captures
You choose the source before each session:
- A single application — DubTab receives audio only from that application's process
- Your whole system — DubTab receives whatever your computer plays, whichever application produced it
The app has no microphone source at all. It cannot access your microphone; there is no code path in the app that does. It hears what your computer plays, never what you say. DubTab also excludes its own AI voice from what it captures, so its dubbing is never fed back into transcription.
Capture runs only while a session is running. Nothing is captured before you press start, and capture stops when you pause or stop.
What whole-system capture means for you
In whole-system mode, DubTab processes everything your computer plays while the session is running — including audio you did not intend to translate, such as a notification sound or a video playing in another window. If you want only one source translated, choose the single-application mode.
If you run DubTab during a call or meeting, the audio of the other participants is processed like any other audio. Depending on where you are and what is being discussed, you may need to inform them or obtain their consent first. That is your responsibility; the app cannot determine it for you.
Data kept on your computer
The app stores a small amount of data in your Windows user profile (%APPDATA%\DubTab):
- Your settings and preferences — languages, voices, keyboard shortcuts, window layout
- A randomly generated installation identifier used for diagnostics
- Downloaded update files, until the update has been installed
Uninstalling the app does not delete these files. Windows keeps them so that reinstalling restores your settings. To remove them, delete the DubTab folder under %APPDATA% after uninstalling. Deleting local files does not delete anything held in your account — for that, contact us.
Automatic updates
The app periodically asks our update server whether a newer version is available. That request carries your current app version and platform, and — as with any download — reveals your IP address to that server.
Diagnostics
In released builds, the app sends usage and diagnostic events: session start and stop, selected languages, feature settings, errors, and the app/device information described in Section 1(C). Before you sign in, these events carry the installation identifier above; once you sign in, they are associated with your account. These events do not contain your audio, your transcripts, or your translations.
8. Chrome Web Store Limited Use
This section applies to the browser extension only. DubTab's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
9. Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Policy may be updated from time to time. The "Effective date" will be updated. Material changes will be posted on the website or within the Service.
